Andy designed a gentle e-bike route using quiet lanes and minimal traffic, focusing on comfort, confidence, and storytelling rather than speed. The route included frequent photo stops, time to explore historic spots, and commentary on local history, including filming locations from the 2020 Emma movie.

The ride passed through peaceful countryside with opportunities to spot wildlife, followed by a relaxed coffee stop in a charming village café. The pace was unhurried, encouraging enjoyment of the scenery and a calm, confidence-building experience for the three friends.

A gravel adventure

Riders: Brad & Alice (45), visiting from Canada
Bikes: Rented gravel bikes
Style: Adventure, scenery, history, relaxed exploration

Brad and Alice were visiting the Cotswolds as part of a wider UK trip and wanted a full-day cycling adventure that combined scenic gravel riding, local history, and classic Cotswolds villages. Andy designed a varied route using a mix of quiet lanes and gentle gravel tracks, prioritising beautiful viewpoints, honey-coloured stone villages, and relaxed café and lunch stops.

The morning ride focused on rolling countryside and panoramic views, with regular pauses for photos and short stories about the area’s history and heritage. A mid-morning coffee stop at Vegetable Matters Farm Shop provided a relaxed break before continuing towards the heart of the Cotswolds.

Lunch was enjoyed in Bourton-on-the-Water at 1:00pm, giving time to soak up the village atmosphere before heading back via quieter back roads and open countryside. The return route included a stop by lavender fields for photos (a standout moment of the day) before a scenic final stretch back into Broadway.

New beginnings

Rider: Darren (45)
Bike: Road bike
Style: Relaxed exploration

Darren lives locally in the Cotswolds and has recently taken up road cycling. Keen to explore at his own pace and discover the quieter corners of his home region, he turned to Andy for help creating a bespoke route that matched his experience and interests.

Andy designed a circular route starting and finishing in Broadway, taking in peaceful back roads, gentle climbs, and rewarding viewpoints, all chosen to build Darren’s confidence and showcase the Cotswolds’ charm away from the tourist hotspots.

The morning section featured smooth lanes through rolling countryside, with stops at tucked-away villages and panoramic photo points. Midway through the ride, Andy included a well-timed coffee break at a small independent café known for its homemade cakes, an instant favourite for Darren.

The return leg offered a mix of woodland lanes and open views across the hills, finishing with an easy descent back into Broadway. By the end of the ride, Darren had not only gained confidence on the bike but also discovered a new favourite route to enjoy again and again.
